But if the term 'formula' suggests some short cuts on the part of the writer, nothing could be further from the truth. He has developed an excellent formula for his books, based either on cities or in some cases countries, weaving personal stories to show how historical events impact on real lives. His output is consistently strong and Paris is no exception. ![]() ![]() Rutherfurd is a remarkable writer in many ways. Their lives cross paths through the years in often unexpected ways and while Paris is an historical fiction novel, this is as much an epic story of families as it is about the history. We encounter the noble de Cygnes, the bourgeois Blanchards, the lower class Gascons and the revolutionary Le Sourds. Taking four families, from different social positions, Edward Rutherfurd weaves these family histories into the history of Paris and France. ![]() As enchanting and complex as the city he describes. Rutherfurd's exemplary historical research supports a wonderfully woven saga of four families from different social positions through the ages that captures the spirit of the nation. In so doing, he gets himself and Ziggy into big trouble, and the original Scribbleboy must re-materialise to get them out of it. The original Scribbleboy has disappeared, and in his unhappy state, Bailey becomes the new Scribbleboy and produces even more fantastic scribbles. A more over-the-top bunch would be hard to find. Ziggy must use a wheelchair, and though he and Bailey are quite ordinary boys, their parents and friends are most definitely not. Bailey, who stutters and has massive problems (mum has walked out and dad has gone peculiar as a consequence) forms the Scribbleboy Fan Club along with his new friend, Ziggy Fuzz. So fantastic are these 'scribbles' that Bailey Silk, new kid in town, faints when he sees one for the first time. Set in a depressing, concrete jungle of a city, the story tells of Scribbleboy, an artist who has painted 'scribbledacious' drawings all over the dull concrete surfaces. ![]() ![]() It's just one of those books, when I was reading it, I enjoyed it, but the more I think about it, the more issues I have with it. ![]() Maybe tomorrow morning I'll wake up and choose violence and round down, we'll see. I really expected more happy scenes between each couple and instead we got some heavy stuff and unnecessary fights & drama.īUTTTT despite all these issues that I have with this book, I still had a good time (mostly) reading this and I'm feeling generous right now to round up the 3.5 stars. These kind of conflicts can be handled in each couple's full lenght novel. If you decide to write additional novella for each couple, then I expect a lot of domestic fluff and not fights about important milestones like marriage, pregnancy, kids etc. The Legacy is not what I have in mind when I think of an epilogue novel(las). Love the idea of them being the first book in the series and then, the last book ending with their chapters, but Elle Kennedy did (all) the characters so dirty. ![]() So I actually re-read HannahGarrett's novella again and felt sooo disappointed. ![]() EDIT: I knew it was coming that one day I wake up and think about this book again and hate most about it. ![]() ![]() ![]() She played her last show at the age of 72 and was filmed swimming in the Chevron Pool at Surfers Paradise when she was in her 80s. ![]() In response to her fame and popularity, a movie of Annette Kellermann’s life was produced in 1952 with Esther Williams playing the lead role of the well-known Australian.Īnnette was the first female swimmer to achieve world fame and recognition in the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
